The role involves extensive front office contact providing advice on derivatives and implementing regulatory change such as Dodd-Frank and EMIR. You’ll work with derivatives trading agreements, focusing on OTC clearing agreements and bespoke swap trading documentation. There is a strong global element to this role.
Description of Area
The Corporate Center ensures that our business divisions operate as a coherent and effective whole by providing and managing support and control functions for the business divisions and the Group including risk management and control (including compliance), finance and legal. It also provides all logistics and support functions including operations, information technology, human resources, corporate development, regulatory relations and strategic initiatives, communications and branding, corporate real estate and administrative services, procurement, offshoring and treasury services such as funding, balance sheet and capital management.
You will be the senior lawyer in the EMEA Derivatives Competence Centre consisting of two lawyers in London and a team of document negotiators in Krakow. The EMEA Derivatives Competence Centre is responsible for negotiating derivatives trading agreements and responding to new regulations and market developments affecting all categories of derivatives used by the Global Asset Management business.
Responsibilities
· Advising the business on all aspects of derivatives trading, including client-specific issues and market standards · Representing Legal on working groups to implement derivatives regulation across the firm, including Dodd-Frank, EMIR and MiFID II. · Oversight of document negotiation team in Krakow, ensuring UBS standards are met and providing support and advice where needed. · Negotiation and analysis of trading agreements related to derivatives · Liaison with UBS teams globally: e.g. Legal, Credit, Operations, Front Office, Product Development, Client Liaison; and direct liaison with external counterparties (banks, brokers) to negotiate agreements and resolve any issues disrupting trading. Requirements • Qualified lawyer, 5+ pqe although candidates with less pqe will be considered if they have the right skills, with knowledge of the derivatives market and asset management industry • Strong understanding of ISDA Master Agreement, Credit Support Annex, Master Confirmation Agreement and related documentation, including experience of negotiating these agreements; in-house asset management experience or within a law firm is preferable, as • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external clients, and ability to represent Legal in front of senior decision-makers • Willingness to learn, good attention to detail and become a subject matter expert in new regulations affecting the derivatives market • Genuine desire to work as part of a close-knit Legal team and support colleagues on non-derivatives matters where necessary, ability to work independently and use own initiative to look for solutions to problems and to prioritize competing demands and work under pressure to strict deadlines Our Offering UBS can offer you an environment geared towards performance, attractive career opportunities, and an open corporate culture that values and rewards the contribution of every individual.
