Offshore Drilling Pros and Cons

Offshore Drilling and oil drilling have one purpose, and it is to collect huge amounts of petroleum from the earth’s crust. If these processes are not available in this world, the supply of petroleum will be very limited. As a result, the mobility of people and the distribution of goods will be very slow and limited also. At the same time, the production of some important products in the market will be very limited if offshore drilling is not present. However, several issues about its presence and effects were created several years ago due to some studies that have been conducted by the authorities with regards on its real benefits and possible negative effects to the nature.

Offshore Drilling Pros

Those issues led to the discovery of its advantages and disadvantages. Offshore drilling has so many benefits to offer to human beings just like the oil drilling. And the only different is the fact that offshore drilling is being executed in the middle of oceans and seas. In this article, the pros and cons of such process will be discussed. Now it’s time to enumerate its pros. The following are the pros of offshore drilling:

  • It increases the domestic oil production in the different parts of the globe.
  • Increased oil production helps people to meet the growing demand for petroleum in several countries at the present time.
  • It serves as a huge contribution to the growth of economy in certain country.
  • More job opportunities can created for unemployed individuals with the help of this growing industry.
  • It increases the national income or revenue of a certain country. It will also increase the funds of the national government of a country or nation that uses it as a source of petroleum.

Offshore Drilling Cons

It is true that offshore drilling has so many benefits to offer in economy and material needs of a country. However, this industry has disadvantages also that can establish negative effects in the lives of many people when not prevented. Here are the cons of offshore drilling:

  • It increases the national budget of a nation. But in return, it will destroy the environment through contamination of water. Oil spills are one of the most dangerous effects of this industry in the nature. Soon, clean drinking waters will be replaced with contaminated water that can kill several individuals when not prevented.
  • The facilities that are needed in offshore drilling are very expensive. It needs a huge amount of investment in order to complete its necessities for its operations. Those nations who do not have huge budgets for new industries won’t be able to establish offshore drilling.
  • Pollution is another disadvantage of this industry. Since its main product is petroleum, therefore it is the main root of the existence of air pollution in this world nowadays.
  • Several nations will no longer engage in international petroleum distribution dependency if the facilities of offshore drilling are available in their countries to promote domestic oil production.
  • Not all countries are rich in natural resources like oil or petroleum. Therefore, offshore drilling cannot provide equal supplies of petroleum in the different parts of the globe every day.
