In the long term a flat tax (that was unavoidable by everyone even those on assistance) would help the nation spend money more rationally. There are infinite choices in where we spend our tax dollars, but we should pick and choose wisely. Do we want to right a wrong in the Middle East? Is it worth $500 to a low income tax payer, $2,500 to an average tax payer and $25,000 to a wealthy tax payer? I will make my choice and accept your choice as well, but only if you share both the risks as well as the rewards.
Currently we have a system that encourages the lowest income earners to ignore tax rates as they don’t believe they are affected by them. But this is a lie. The 47% who don’t pay federal income tax are still affected by the overall tax rates in everything they buy. The tax rates paid by the middle class and the wealthy raise the prices for rent, gasoline, food, cable & telephone service, medical care and everything else you can name. As a business owner I can assure you that the final sale price of my product includes every tax I incur: corporate, income, real estate, inventory, regulatory, state and local. Does anyone believe that high taxes on corporations and the wealthy aren’t included in the cost of everything?
So a flat tax brings us together to make better choices for the nation as a whole, rather than fighting against one another in an attempt to get a bigger piece of the pie or keep more of the slice you already have. As history has shown, spending money wisely can lead to growth creating a bigger pie that gives everyone a bigger slice.

Ask yourself this question:
Do you think it would be fair, if you went to Wal-Mart, and had to purchase things not at a set price, but at a percentage of what you make?
You’re telling people that the services the Government provides, should be paid for by equal percentage by all. And that it’s fair.
So how is the Wal-Mart situation not fair also?
