Expedia embraces Bitcoin Yahoo and Google Finance list BTC Israel gets a RoboCoin

Travel giant Expedia has partnered with Coinbase to become the first major travel company to accept Bitcoin. The site will be adding Bitcoin to the payment options for hotel check-out, and is considering offering Bitcoin payments for its other booking platforms, such as airline and cruise tickets. As stated in their press release, the company feels that “Bitcoin is a great example of how Expedia is investing early in an array of payment options to give our customers and partners more choice in the ways they interact with us.”

Global shipping provider Bongo International started accepting Bitcoin today as well, becoming another major company to accept the digital currency. As Bongo CTO Federico Lara says, “We are literally writing a new chapter in the world of Bitcoin By accepting alternative payment options, such as Bitcoin, we can level the financial playing field in much the same way we do with international shipping.”

And large US jewelry chain REEDS Jewelers has started accepting bitcoin both at its retail locations and its online store. Already a relatively progressive company in the jewelry industry, REEDS was one of the first jewelers to have a website, as well as adopt an online point-of-sale system in its stores, which made the software configuration with Coinbase to accept bitcoin that much easier.

Prague-based financial management service Wealthico has officially launched its Mint.com-like platform for digital currencies. The personal finance tool helps users track the performance of over 300 alt coins alongside their traditional stocks. CEO and Founder Karel Javurek says the company plans to add more features and integrate with other cryptocurrencies companies like Coinbase and BitPay, but clearly states, “We don’t need to be a trading platform, we want to be the one place where you look for financial statistics.”

Following in Bloombergs footsteps from late April, Yahoo! Finance is now displaying the Bitcoin to US dollar price, as well as an index of Bitcoin-related news to its massive user base. This move helps bring Bitcoin pricing data to a significantly wider audience, including Apples iOS Stocks app, which relies on Yahoo! Finance data.

And a search on Google Finance reveals that the search giants financial news and research site also offers data on the Bitcoin to USD market price. It even appears to be available on the mobile version of Google Finance, according to users on the Bitcoin subreddit .

Israel will welcome the Middle Easts first Bitcoin ATM in Tel Aviv today, thanks to peer-to-peer payment company BitBox. As BitBox CEO Nimrod Gruber explains, the new Robocoin machine “will allow any person with no previous knowledge of Bitcoin and how it works to easily buy and sell Bitcoin 24/7 bypassing the bureaucracy of the banks.”

And in Massachusetts, MIT has installed its first on-campus Bitcoin ATM, a new Liberty Teller machine located in the universitys COOP store. which is also looking into accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment. Liberty Teller co-founder Chris Yim says this ATM launch made a lot of sense given the other bitcoin initiatives taking place on campus, including the MIT Bitcoin Project s summer app development contest and distribution of $100 dollars in Bitcoin to all undergraduates this fall.

15-year-old Idaho entrepreneur Erik Finman turned a $1,000 check from his grandmother into over $100,000 in Bitcoin. thanks to a well-timed investment. Those earnings have now become the foundation of a thriving new business, online video tutoring service Botangle.com. Finman now pays his employees in Bitcoin, saying I have no doubt it will be huger than anyone can imagine right now. Bitcoin is like the Internet in the 90s. In the meantime, Finman has switched to homeschooling to focus on his business, and has hopes of earning a million dollars by his 18th birthday.
