Dear All:
Executive Director Ahmad Namini
Welcome to Boston Universitys Mathematical Finance (MF) Program within the School of Management, located a short walk from the vibrant area of Kenmore Square and across the Charles River from MIT and Harvard. The pioneering BU MF program, which began in 1999, was one of the first mathematical finance programs. More than 300 students have since graduated, and many of our alums work at investment banks, hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, private-equity and asset management firms, financial technology companies, research and consulting firms, and universities.
The MF Program offers both Masters and PhD level programs, which, according to hiring managers and alumni, ideally prepares graduates with the competencies, intuition, and rigors required of the financial industry. The MF Masters Programs curriculum is specifically designed to combine the fields of finance, applied mathematics, and computer science, and the MF PhD Program emphasizes academic scholarship and the development of innovative research for the mathematical finance field.
In a time of volatility and change in the financial markets, the MF Program has actively maintained strong ties to the industry. Weve been quite successful in collaborating with leading companies to offer summer internships, technical and informational seminars, trading and case competitions, and site visits to keep our students plugged in to the real world. Our corporate friends keep our instructional materials relevant and pertinent, and provide us with insight regarding hiring needs, industry news, and market outlooks. In turn, our ambitious, hard-working, and highly competent students go on to become summer interns and employees with many of our corporate partners.
Year after year, our incoming students are ranked among the best in the world, and our faculty is comprised of some of the finest scholars that the industry has to offer. If youre an interested applicant and wish to become a trader, quantitative analyst or developer, portfolio- or asset-manager, risk analyst, financial technologist, researcher, consultant, or any other pertinent career with quantitative financial overtones and you are willing to work hard for 17 months, I encourage you to apply. If youre an interested corporation with hiring needs for summer internships or full-time employees, or need specific research or consulting expertise, please contact us and together, well find a solution.
The MF Program has enjoyed many successes, but were aiming even higher for the future. I graduated from the MF Program in 2005 before joining the financial industry as a quantitative analyst and trader at two investment banks and a hedge fund. I guarantee that the BU MF program will be at the forefront of the future of finance. Join us.
Best regards,
