There has been some recent momentum in the launching of bond ETFs targeted at emerging market regions as of late. So with that in mind, I compiled a full and updated list of emerging market bond funds so that you, as an ETF investor, have a reference point for all of your investing options for this strategy.
Please be sure to research each fund individually to make sure it is the best fit or your investing strategy or portfolio. And if there is more information on each fund on our web site, I will make sure to link to the symbol fact sheet. Also, I will be updating this list as more emerging market bond exchange traded funds are created and launched, and I will remove any ETFs that get delisted over time as well. (Hopefully that’s a rare occurrence)
And if you have a general interest in international bond funds aimed at developed markets, then you should check out the list of foreign bond ETFs. And I also have a list of emerging market ETFs for those who just want to target these types of regions, not specific to bond funds.
And as you can see below, some of these funds target or include corporate funds, while others specialize in government issued debt. And some have a mix of both. So now that you have some ETF investing options, here is your complete…
List of Emerging Market Bond ETFs

- EBND — SPDR Barclays Capital Emerging Markets Local Bond ETF
- ELD – Wisdom Tree Emerging Markets Local Debt ETF
- EMB – the iShares JP Morgan USD Emerging Markets Bond ETF

Keep in mind that investing in foreign markets always has risk, on top of the general risk of any investment, ETF or otherwise. Foreign markets are hard to predict, especially if they include volatile situations or climates. So it is very important to not only conduct research on the ETF itself, but the region or country it targets as well.
So if you are considering trading any of the above emerging market bond ETFs, make sure you are well aware of the economic climates of each targeted region and the risks involved. And if you have any questions or concerns, be sure to consult your broker or a financial professional.
But once you decide the best funds that match your investing strategy, then you can not only benefit from the many advantages of ETFs (such as the tax benefits), but hopefully accomplish your investing goals as well. Good luck and happy trading.
Disclaimer – I don’t not have any positions on the above funds at the time of publication for this ETF article.
