When To Buy A Mutual Fund

Dividends & Capital Gains

Introduction:

The Buy/Sell Funds ticket provides you with a method to buy and sell mutual funds within your account. Many of the available Mutual Funds are from the country’s best-known and top-performing fund families.

If you need to Exchange mutual funds, use the Exchange ticket that allows you to quickly and easily exchange funds in your portfolio with funds from the same family.

The Secure Trading System remembers the Mutual Fund ticket you last used and will present that ticket format to you each time you place a mutual fund order. You may switch tickets at any time by selecting the Buy/Sell or Exchange tabs at bottom of the ticket. Whichever one you use, you will find a Mutual Fund ticket that has your trading needs in mind.

How do I place a Buy/Sell Mutual Fund order?

  1. Go to the Buy/Sell Mutual Fund order ticket by selecting the Trade button from the top navigation bar and select the Buy/Sell Funds link from the left-hand menu.
  2. Fill out the ticket by choosing an Action (Buy or Sell), Quantity and quantity type (Dollars, Shares, or All), and the mutual fund’s ticker Symbol. If you do not know the mutual fund’s ticker symbol, select the Find Symbol link to search for the correct ticker symbol. Fill out the remainder of the ticket by choosing how you want Dividends and Capital Gains handled for your order.
  3. Select the Preview Order button to display the Readback screen, allowing you to review your order and a real-time quote for that mutual fund before actually submitting it. Please review this information carefully to verify that the order states your exact intentions.
  4. Select the Place Order button to submit the order and display the Order Sent screen. If you do not want to place this order, select the Do NOT Place Order button to NOT place your order and display an Order Canceled message.

If you intend to place this order, you must select the Place Order button within 90 seconds of receiving the Readback screen. After the 90-second period, your order will not be accepted, and you will need to return to the Buy/Sell Mutual Fund order ticket to enter your order again. This safeguard is in place to avoid the accidental duplication of your order by selecting the Place Order button twice.

  5. The Order Sent screen displays the details of the order you submitted and your order identification number. You may select the Review Status button to review the status of all the current orders placed on your account that are awaiting execution.

This completes the process of placing a Buy/Sell Mutual Fund order.

If you do not know either mutual fund’s ticker symbol, select the Find Symbol link under the From Symbol or To Symbol fields to search for the correct ticker symbol(s).
    3. Select the Preview Order button to display the Readback screen, allowing you to review your order and a real-time quote for that mutual fund before actually submitting it. Please review this information carefully to verify that the order states your exact intentions.
