The deliberations are over, and the Capital Investment Fund has chosen winners of $10,000 in CIF grants.

After narrowing the competition down from eleven applicants, ultimately, six were closen, among them three club sports, a musical group, and arts group, and a theater group. Although the full list of finalists has yet to be released, the grant winners are:

  • Columbia University Film Society

  • Lacrosse Club
  • Hindu Students Organization

The grants were made as part of the four student councils’ Finance Committee for clubs to get extra funding for various initiatives. After a change in structure, $10,000 will be awarded to student groups each semester, rather than $15,000 annually. The fund looks forward to receiving more applicants next semester.

STUDENT COUNCILS RELEASE LIST OF CAPITAL INVESTMENT FUND RECIPIENTS

The four undergraduate student councils will be awarding Capital Investment grants to six student organizations, among them three club sports groups, a musical group, an arts group, and a religious group.

The Capital Investment Fund received eleven applications this semester, and the ensuing deliberations took place over the course of two weeks; they involved interviews, presentations, and deliberations. Making the decisions was more difficult this year because of the change in format, as the fund has increased from $15,000 to $20,000 and is now allocated each semester. Approximately $10,000 each semester is granted to student groups, with a little leeway allowed if the Capital Investment Fund Committee felt very strongly about providing funding. Almost all groups that applied had legitimate needs for funds, reflecting the ever-growing and effervescent nature of student life here at Columbia. The committee worked very hard, even during reading week of the final exam period, to examine the list of candidates and pay close attention to the groups with the greatest needs. The councils are grateful for and encouraged by the positive response to and results of the Capital Investment Fund, and look forward to the growth of its impact on the Columbia community.

The Capital Investment Fund was created to provide funding for large-scale, multi-year investments for student groups. This kind of expenditure has been made difficult in the past due to the turnover of club members and fluctuating allocations every school year. The committee will continue to expand the overall mission of the Finance Committee to expand and enhance student groups with active funding.

Following is the list of recipients:

Columbia University Film Society $2625.00 to purchase a state-of-the-art camcorder

Capoeira Club — $1000.00 to purchase various instruments, which include the berimbau, the atabaque, and

Taekwondo Club — $500.00 to replace a standing bag and purchase five rebreakable boards

Congratulations to all the recipients and best of luck with your initiatives.
