Ian Kilpatrick, the founder of Crusader International Group of Companies, was honored by the Captive Insurance Companies Association with its 2015 Distinguished Service Award, the highest award in the captive insurance industry, according to CICA.

The 2015 recipients of the CICA Distinguished Service Award and the CICA Outstanding Captive Award were celebrated at the opening session of the CICA 2015 International Conference on March 9 in Orlando, Florida.

The distinguished service award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to advancing the captive insurance industry.

Mr. Kilpatrick has had postings in the Bahamas, the United States and Cayman, where he spent most of his career, CICA said.

Throughout his more than 40 years in international insurance and financial operations, Mr. Kilpatrick has been an advocate for the industry, and he was recognized in Captive Review’s 2012 Power 50.

He founded Crusader in 1992 and expanded into the U.S. in 2002 to form captive management companies in South Carolina, Arizona and Washington, D.C.

In 2013, he sold the majority of both the U.S. and Cayman operations, but he remains a director of the new company known as Advantage Insurance Holdings Ltd.

He was a founder of the Insurance Managers Association of Cayman and later served on the CICA board of directors. More recently, Mr. Kilpatrick has served as chair of CICA’s task force on transfer pricing and has spoken a number of times on the captive insurance industry’s response to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Report.

Cayman voted best hedge fund services jurisdiction

The Cayman Islands was named best hedge fund services jurisdiction at the 2015 Hedgeweek Global Awards in London.

Hedgeweek is described as the largest online news publisher serving the investment and wealth managers market.

Minister of Financial Services Wayne Panton said the Hedgeweek award confirms that Cayman is a preferred place for doing business.

“This truly is a jurisdictional achievement, founded on the historically strong relationship between government and the financial services industry,” Mr. Panton said. “It’s proof that Cayman’s model works, our legislative framework meets client needs, and our regulatory mechanisms ensure the soundness and global reputation of our jurisdiction.”

Cayman Finance CEO Jude Scott said he was delighted with Cayman’s award. “This is the first time Hedgeweek included this category into their awards, so I am thrilled Cayman is the very first recipient,” Mr. Scott said. “We will, as an industry, continue to provide the very best services to our clients through innovation and excellence at every level.”

The Hedgeweek Global Award winners are voted by its more than 40,000 subscribers, comprised of industry professionals who include institutional investors, wealth managers, fund managers and other industry professionals.

“This award has particular significance as winners were chosen by industry professionals themselves, reflecting the true experience of our business partners and clients,” Mr Scott said.

The award was collected on Feb. 27 by Mark Lewis, a Cayman Finance board member.

Phoenix Group hires operations manager

The Phoenix Group has appointed Keith McCarthy as operations and quality controls manager.

He joined Phoenix in 2014 as a project manager. Now Mr. McCarthy will have oversight position on all Phoenix Group projects. He has almost three decades of experience in his native Canada and more than 10 years of senior management experience in Bermuda.

Campbells appoints head of property and local practice

Campbells has named Lily Lee as head of property and local practice. Ms. Lee, who joined Campbells in 2013, specializes in property, estate and private client matters.

Ms. Lee is admitted as an attorney in Ontario, Canada, and the Cayman Islands, and previously lectured at the Cayman Islands Law School.

Marketing professionals board named

The Cayman Islands Marketing Professionals Association has announced its 2015 board of directors, which comprises five returning members and four new members.

The board members are: Lynne Byles, chair; Jennifer O’Leary, deputy chair; Angela Piercy, secretary; Jason Keating, treasurer; Katherine Atkinson, fundraising; Maya Lewis, training; Paola Juarez-Robinson, membership; Karen Ebanks, events; and Debbie Taylor, communications.

CIMPA’s main role is to serve as a forum to connect like-minded individuals and foster knowledge-sharing, provide resources, tools and training and support marketing practice in Cayman.

Last year was a busy one, “particularly with the launch of our new brand and our hugely successful conference,” said Ms. Byles. “Many thanks to all of our sponsors and volunteers that helped to make it all happen. 2015 is shaping up to be even busier, including the first annual CIMPA Marketing Awards, quarterly training sessions, our third annual conference, various social events for marketing professionals and much more.”

Cayman National sponsors 5K Challenge

Cayman National is a Silver sponsor for the Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge on April 26. The event focuses on fitness and also raises money to benefit the Special Olympics Cayman Islands.

Grand Cayman Beach Suites helps with food drive

Grand Cayman Beach Suites staff have organized a food drive to benefit Miss Nadine’s Preschool.

Preschool director Heather Lopez said, “We appreciate your donation so much. Nutritious meals play a big part in a child’s ability to learn. We take healthy eating very seriously at Miss Nadine’s Preschool and the Jack and Jill Nursery and provide healthy cooked meals daily for the children.”

With the help of Grand Cayman Beach Suites, the preschool was able to provide healthy meals for more than 65 children and babies who attend the preschool, she said.

Chamber of Commerce conducts salary survey

The Chamber of Commerce has contracted KRyS Global to undertake a salary and benefits survey of its membership.

It will be the fifth time the Chamber has conducted such a survey since 1997 to provide an overview of the work and benefit trends across all of the major industry sectors.
