thanks for this, very clear! Also check out anxbtc.com I met the founder at a bitcoin meetup in HK and seems very legit. I signed up but havent traded there yet, so cant give much of an opinion other than it looks pretty legit. Also, no trading fees (for a limited time they say)

posted this comment on your mt vesuvius pt.1 mistakenly as it applies to this article: you can short btc many places including the btc futures exchange icbit.se and the premium that u sell on that exchange to allow people to leverage blows bitfinexes rates out of the water (selling futures on an exchange that allows people to buy futures with leverage is essentially just lending people btc to leverage on futures contracts and the rate of return is realized through the premium decaying until the futures expire as long as youre hedging delta neutral by buying the equivalent amount of btc every time u sell futures contracts). u bring up a lot of good points, but stating that bitfinex is the only place you can short btc really messes with your advice credibility

I corrected the Bitfinex section slightly after reading your original comment. It now says that shorting is something you cant do most places, but can do on Bitfinex.

I havent heard of the website you mention, but Ill look into it, and if it is large enough Ill add it to the page.

yea icbit.se is the main btc futures exchange, and there are many other exchanges that do BTC CFDs and binary options, plus theres this irish exchange https://www.predictious.com that has btc derivatives as well. You can also short BTC on BTC-E metatrader4 but its a bit wonky sometimes and last time i checked short selling was an option on campBX but i havent been on there in a while. 796.com also has these strange weekly futures that allow shorting as well. The first place I ever shorted anything related to BTC was on icbit.se along with playing the options game on btct.co and bitfunder.com, but both of those sites are done now due to regulatory problems. Luckily icbit.se was still alive (and has been since 2011) right before BTC went exponential after the silk road crash. I was fairly late to the BTC trading scene (I started in March of 2013) but I was luckily enough to be long 20k contracts right after the SR crash and kept reinvesting a good portion of my earnings with 4:1 leverage all thru nov and early dec, so even thou I wasnt an early adopter/early miner I was able to see a %10000 return on my initial investment because of the godsend that is icbit.se lol

I am in the middle of writing a full update to this post. My opinion on Bitfinex has not changed much, but it has changed. I am slightly more negative of them technically, but more positive generally due to their customer service actions.

I would like to point out, though, that my C+ review referred to Vircurex as shady and pointed out the lack of profitability indicated in their previous years report, as well as the vagueness of their ownership and existence. You may want to read the article in addition to looking at the list.
