Corporate Citizenship Investing in Our Communities

In 2012, we continued to build on our long and proud tradition of giving back to the broader community. The United Way recognized Air Products as one of only 126 global corporate leaders worldwide. Our leadership was evident not only in the companys contribution of $1.9 million, but in the level of engagement from our employees in this years United Way Campaign: 51 percent of our employees participated in the campaign, almost double the national average. We also piloted a day of volunteering in our IT organization with much success and expect to roll out a Global Day of Volunteering across our worldwide operations in 2014.

Our commitment to corporate citizenship is about striving to improve the quality of life in our host communities, working in partnership with local government and organizations.

Our support priorities include:

  • Donated $5.6M to nonprofit agencies
  • United Way Campaign national average for employee participation = 24% ; Air Products employee participation in 2012 = 51%
  • Employees designated over $1 million of Foundation giving to agencies of their choice
  • Employee volunteerism at corporate headquarters rose to 43% due to increased volunteerism opportunities and interest along with improved accounting

Our Communities

We actively engage the communities where we operate and our employees live and work in a number of ways, including:

  • Building relationships with and providing educational training about our facilities and products to local authorities and emergency response personnel.
  • Providing outreach training for key operations managers at major facilities to engage their host communities.
  • Meeting with legislators and officials on permitting, regulatory and other issues.
  • Participating in community activities and responding to local grant and sponsorship requests.
  • Organizing and participating in Community Advisory Panels and similar community groups around our plants.
  • Promoting a corporate policy that allows employees to volunteer during work hours with the support of their managers. Thousands of Air Products employees volunteer hundreds of thousands of hours annually, both as individuals and as groups through dedicated Days of Caring events.
