Our programs strive to promote environmental stewardship, enhance the skill sets of the next generation of industry workers and support the needs of communities where we live and operate.

Encana’s approach to community giving is to strategically invest in the following areas:

Education

We support education and the development of a sustainable energy industry workforce through investments in STEM educational programs, trades training and careers in the oil and natural gas industry including:

• certificate and associate degree scholarships in petroleum technology at Navarro and Bossier Parish community colleges that include field apprentice training
• supporting the Travelling Trades program in Northern Alberta
• the empowerment of young women in science, trades and technology through the Techsploration program in Nova Scotia

Environment

We work hard to limit our operational impacts and support environmental programs and initiatives that target energy education and the stewardship of air, land and water including:

Community Life

We are responsive to the needs of the local communities where we operate and invest in projects and programs that enhance community safety and wellbeing such as:

• supporting the Calgary Fire Department’s accelerant detection canines .
• the annual Race Against Hunger which supports local community food banks in key operating areas
• local county fairs including 4-H and FFA livestock and leadership programs
• the Wyoming Buddy Walk to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families

Employee programs

Encana employees invest their time and money to support a wide variety of organizations they care about through Encana Cares, Encana Matches and Encana Volunteers. In 2014, the Encana Cares campaign supported 1,169 charities on a local, national and international level, raising more than $2.9 million. With Encana Matches, Encana supports employees donations by matching cash contributions and payroll deductions dollar for dollar up to $25,000 per employee per year. Under Encana Volunteers, employees can apply for an annual grant of up to $1,000 for 60 hours of volunteer service to their favorite charity.
