Advanced Financial Modeling

Advanced Financial Modeling (AFM) is an intensive, interactive, hands-on approach to learning the concepts, tools, and skills required to gain an edge in today’s ultra-competitive job market.  Instead of waiting for your new boss to show you what to do and how to do it, AFM Alumni hit the ground running.  AFM Alumni ace tough finance interviews, get return offers in their internships, and get promoted in their full-time jobs.  AFM also empowers professionals looking to gain an edge or make a career change into corporate finance.

Valuation is tricky.  Blindly following textbook equations and carelessly assembling comps lists can produce laughable valuation results.  Valuation mistakes in the professional arena can be career-ending.  Miscues on corporate valuation have brought about some of the biggest mistakes in corporate M&A history: think Time Warner & AOL, Quaker Oats & Snapple, Sprint & Nextel, HP & Autonomy, all these deals resulted in massive write-offs (loss in equity value).

AFM teaches students how to create a cohesive valuation derived from Public Comparable Companies, Acquisition Comparables, and Discounted Cash Flows.  AFM teaches students to be thoughtful about corporate valuation and to understand when and where to adjust variables to produce a result that makes good financial sense.

This course will teach students and professionals how to:

  1. accurately adjust equity value for diluted shares
  2. accurately calculate enterprise value
  3. correctly identify and value public comparable companies
  4. find acquisition comparable transactions
  5. adjust acquisition comparables for synergies
  6. calculate and adjust discount rates
  7. adjust cash flows for levered or unlevered discount rates

Our invitation. Go from a mad scientist to a skillful valuation artist.

Advanced Financial Modeling (AFM) not only teaches students valuation and transaction concepts, but the class teaches you (1) how to increase your efficiency in Excel by 3x, (2) how to build clean, efficient financial models, and (3) how to build game changing sensitivity tools.

If you aspire to be a Wall Street investment banker, a venture capital or private equity investor, or a skilled CFO, then you must know how to build top quality financial models.  This course will teach you how to do that.  You will learn how to use hotkeys in Excel to increase your efficiency.  Then we will build Wall Street quality financial models from scratch in class.  The only way to truly understand a financial model is to build it yourself.

During this course we will build the following financial models:

  1. Earnings Forecast Model (GAAP Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement)
  2. Public Comparables Valuation Model
  3. Acquisition Comparables Valuation Model
  4. Discounted Cash Flow Model
  5. Stock Merger Model
  6. Leveraged Buyout Model
  7. Venture Capital Model

Our invitation. Go from mouse clicker to hotkey ninja in 36 hours.

Advanced Financial Modeling (AFM) teaches the fundamentals of structuring complex financial transactions such as stock mergers, leveraged buyouts, and venture capital transactions.  Learn what accretion/dilution analysis is and how to tell whether a company can afford to complete a stock merger.  Understand how much debt a company can use to complete a leveraged buyout transaction without defaulting on its debt covenants and still generating adequate returns.  Determine the difference between preferred equity structures used by venture capitalists and their impact on investment returns.

If you aspire to be a deal-maker who creates real value for stakeholders, whether you aspire to be a CFO, investment banker, or investor, AFM will teach you the transaction skills you need.  The course will teach students how to find great financial data, how to quickly analyze financials, Excel modeling best practices, how to value companies, and how to model transactions.

This course teaches students the following transaction skills:

  1. Accretion/dilution analysis for stock mergers
  2. How synergies factor into transaction affordability
  3. The amount of debt typically used in a leveraged buyout
  4. Default risk from using too much debt
  5. What are adequate returns for buyout firms
  6. How are early stage companies valued
  7. Venture capital deal structures

Our invitation. Go from wide-eyed intern to promoted transaction professional.
